"Father of hybrid rice （雜交水稻）" Yuan Longping passed away at 13：07 pm in Changsha of Hunan province.Dr.Yuan helped China work a great wonder — feeding nearly one-fifth of the world's population with less than 9 percent of the world's total land. （1）他是中國最偉大的科學家之一，but he still considered himself as a farmer.
    Dr.Yuan graduated from Southeast Agricultural College in 1953.As a young man，he saw the great need for increasing the rice output （產(chǎn)量）. （2）At that time，hunger was a serious problem in many parts of the countryside. Dr.Yuan searched for a way to increase rice harvest without expanding （擴大） the area of the fields.In 1950，Chinese farmers could produce only fifty million tons of rice.（3）In 1974，he became the first in the world to grow rice with a high output.
