  • 41.When I was a boy,our extended, immigrant family would sometimes gather at my aunt's tiny house over the summer.Relatives from all over the country would come in to visit. The adults would crowd together in the living room to talk and catch up on each other's lives. And the kids would be sent out into the front yard to play when dinner was slowly cooked for all of us.
Those were the days before video games, smart phones, and motorized toys,so we often ended up playing an old game.I remember one of those moments especially. As I was the youngest and smallest of all the kids there,I got caught first and couldn't catch anyone else.My brothers and cousins were all too fast for me,and I grew more and more frustrated.I finally fell my face first into the dirt.I got up with tears forming in my eyes. Then I saw one of my female cousins Susan standing there. She started to run but was going much slower than before.I easily caught up and seized her. Then she turned to me,smiled, and said,I'm it!You'd better run!Iran off laughing with glee while she turned and started to chase others.
Now I see how her act of kindness that day saved me from sadness and returned me to joy.It didn't matter that we hardly ever saw each other.I know we are family and she loves me.
In her wonderful book:Box of Butterflies,Roma Downey writes, "We are all one,we all belong to each other, and we are one big.beautiful family." Perhaps it is time that we all started to treat each other that way.Perhaps it is time that we shared our love, our kindness, our laughter, and our joy with everyone without fear.Perhaps it is time to finally and forever bring this world together in one big family reunion.

  • 44.Professor Ashok Goel of Georgia Tech developed an artificially intelligent teaching assistant to help handle the enormous number of student questions in the online class,Knowledge-Based Artificial Intelligence. This online course is a core requirement of Georgia Tech's online Master of Science in Computer Science program.Professor Goel already had eight teaching assistants, but that wasn't enough to deal with the overwhelming number of daily questions from students.
Many students drop out of online courses because of the lack of teaching support. When students feel confused and reach out with questions that go unanswered, their motivation to continue begins to fade.Professor Goel decided to do something to remedy (改進(jìn)) this situation and his solution was to create a virtual assistant named Jill Watson, which is based on the IBM Watson platform.
Goel and his team developed several versions of Jill Watson before releasing her to the online forums. At first, the virtual assistant wasn't too great. But Goel and his team sourced the online discussion forum to find all the 40,000 questions that had ever been asked since the class was launched. Then they began to feed Jill with the questions and answers. After some adjustments and sufficient time,Jill was able to answer the students' questions correctly 97% of the time. The virtual assistant became so advanced and realistic that the students didn't know she was a computer. The students, who were studying artificial intelligence, were interacting with the virtual assistant and couldn't tell it apart from a real human being.Goel didn't inform them about Jill's true identity until April 26.The students were actually very positive about the experience.
The goal of Professor Goel's virtual assistant next year is to take over answering 40% of all the questions posed by students on the online forum. The name Jill Watson will,of course, change to something else next semester.Professor Goel has a much more hopeful outlook on the future of artificial intelligence than, say,Elon Musk,Stephen Hawking,Bill Gates or Steve Wozniak.

(1)Professor Goel created a virtual teaching assistant because
    .
A.his course was not interesting enough

D.Her name will be kept for the next virtual assistant.
(3)What does Professor Goel plan to do next with Jill Watson?

    A.Replace her with different versions.
B.Enable her to answer more questions.
C.Recommend her to some famous people.
D.Equip her with new questions and answers.
(4)What's the main idea of the text?

A.A robot named Jill Watson gives an online course.

  • 46.Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run on the streets.Every one of them tends to go to the park or the river.
But despite this, our children are growing up naturedeprived(剝奪).I spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of the ancient freedom, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open space and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found.
The truth is to be found elsewhere.A study in the US:families had moved to better housing and the children were assessed for ADHD—Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(注意力缺陷多動(dòng)癥).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%;those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.
ADHD is one of the great problems of modern childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However,we spend money on drugs rather than on green places.
The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality.Even problems with crime and aggressive behaviour are reduced when there is contact with the natural world.
We need the wild world. It is essential to our wellbeing, our health and our happiness.

    (1)According to the author,people enjoy
    to seek nature.
    A.jogging on the street
    B.running in the gym
    C.shopping in the supermarket
    D.sitting in the garden
(2)From the second paragraph,we can see that
    .
A.Children don't want to approach nature
B.children probably spend less time in nature nowadays
C.climbing trees will certainly do good to the children
D.children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction
(3)In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?

A.Children with ADHD can be cured.
B.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.
C.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved.
D.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.
(4)what is the main idea of this passage?

A.Access to nature improves our life.
    B.Nature treats children for ADHD.
C.Getting close to nature reduces crime.
D.Man can't live without natural areas.
