1.Communicating effectively means more than knowing what to say and when to say it.Communication involves the subtle signals your body language sends to those who are watching. Here are some common body actions and the impressions they create:
● Fiddling (好動(dòng)) - Playing with your watch or a pen looks like you're bored or impatient.
● Clock watching - It looks like you're to move on to something else.
● Tapping-Tapping your feet or fingers suggests you are impatient or nervous.
● Staring - An unblinking (不眨眼的) stare conveys threatening or violent behaviour.
● Legs crossed or body hunched (弓背,聳肩)- Closing up your body profile - becoming smaller - looks like you lack confidence.
● Arms crossed - If you keep your arms folded during communication, you appear to be defending yourself against the others.
● Touching your face - When you have your hand in front of your mouth, you appear very shy.
● Rubbing your nose, looking away - People who are lying often rub their nose or look away when speaking.
● No eye contact - If you won't look the other speaker in the eye,you seem to have low interest or a lack of confidence. (Don't forget staring above.)

2.Sign language, the primary form of communication of the deaf community, has been in use for hundreds of years. You're probably most familiar with American Sign Language, but sign language is used all over the world and has nearly 150 variations.Sign language interpreters can be seen everywhere from classrooms and graduation ceremonies to major sporting events.
When you think of sign language, you most likely imagine signers using their hands to form words and letters. However, hands are only one of the many different body language techniques that signers use to get their meaning across. In fact, much of the grammatical structure of sign language is not indicated by the signer's hands.
While the hands are responsible for forming the words themselves, markers called "non-manual elements" control much of the languages' grammatical structure.Non-manual elements(or markers)are body language techniques that don't use the hands. These include head movements, body positioning and facial expressions.Used together with the signs.jye.ai elements give sign language a subtle(微妙的)and extremely complicated grammatical structure.Linguist Andrea Lackner from Alpcn-Adria University in Austria did a study that shows just how important these non-manual elements are to sign language users.
The study assessed just how many different things non-manual elements can do.For this study, all participants were deaf users of Austrian Sign Language. They watched a video of someone using sign language, and they had to describe the purpose of each non-manual element. The results were very complicated. For instance, things as subtle as the direction of the signer's gaze can indicate whether or not a statement is hypothetical(假設(shè)的).A single head movement can indicate the emotion of a statement,a conditional or if situation,or a signer's feelings toward a hypothetical question.Body language is always important, but in sign language,it can change the entire meaning of a sentence!
(1)What do signers use their hands to do mostly?
A.To know people's words and letters.
B.To understand people's meanings.
C.To form the grammatical structure.
D.To form words and letters.
(2)What do non-manual elements include?
A.Words,sign language and body language.
B.Head movements,body language and signs.
C.Head movements, body positioning and facial expressions.
D.Body positioning,facial expressions and signs.
(3)What does the study show about sign language?
A.The main function of the non-manual elements.
B.The importance of the non-manual elements.
C.The influence of body language on sign language.
D.The influence of sign language on body language.
(4)What may be the best title for the text?
A.Non-manual Elements Counts in Sign Language
B.Ways to Avoid Being Misunderstood
C.Grammatical Elements in Sign Language
D.The Importance of Sign Language組卷:0引用:2難度:0.5 -
3.Nonverbal communication is a broad term used to describe any method of conveying information without words.Whether intentional, based on societal cues (提示),or completely unconscious common forms of nonverbal communication include body language and facial cues, fashion and personal clothing hand gestures,as well as graphical signs and design.
It is important to note that nonverbal communication is really about a lack of words, rather than a lack of speech sounds. That means writing would be considered verbal communication while sounds like grunts(嘟噥)would not.
Nonverbal communication can be broadly divided into relatively universal forms and culturally dependent forms. Many facial expressions, for example, are relatively universal, with most cultures able to identify expressions of fear, joy,or anger. On the other hand, nonverbal cues like bowing, shaking hands,or flashing a peace sign are culturally characteristic, and therefore have little meaning outside of cultures that understand them.
Fashion is a form of nonverbal communication, and in many modern cultures is a hugely important way in which people telegraph things about themselves.
Gestures also act as a form of nonverbal communication.A wide range of hand gestures can be found in most cultures, and in the west there are some almost universal gestures, such as a wave goodbye,a thumbs-up to show everything is okay,or hands outspread to signify offerings.
Body language is one of the most studied forms of nonverbal communication, and deals with how the body rests, how it is situated in relation to other bodies, and the special distance between bodies. For example, turning towards a person when seated and speaking to them is a nonverbal cue showing interest, while turning away shows a lack of interest.Tipping your head slightly is a form of nonverbal communication to show curiosity or express that you are listening closely or what they are saying, while constantly looking away would show a lack of attention.
(1)What is the purpose of the author in writing the text?
A.To explain what nonverbal communication is.
B.To introduce some universal body languages.
C.To compare nonverbal cues and verbal ones.
D.To discuss the cultural shock of communication.
(2)According to the author, the meaning of
A.smiling

C.bowing
D.screaming
(3)What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?
A.Body language is the most frequently studied by scientists.
B.Body language relies on body movements to convey messages.
C.Body language can be used to express your different meanings.
D.Body language varies very slightly from one country to another.組卷:0引用:1難度:0.5 -
4.In the summer between my first year and second year in college,I was invited to be an instructor at a high school camp.On the first day, when we were dancing and playing games,I noticed a boy under the tree who was small and thin. His shyness made him appear weak.I walked towards him, introduced myself and invited him to join in the activities and meet some new people. He quietly replied,"No,I really don't want to do this." I could understand that he was in a new world but I knew it wouldn't be right to force him, either.Actually, the boy didn't need a close talk but a friend.
At lunch the next day,I was leading camp songs when I saw the boy under the tree sitting alone.I tried again with the same invitation, but he refused once again. That evening I was told the boy's name was Tommy. Then I asked the campers to pay special attention to the boy and spend time with him when they could.
The days went by and the time came when we had to leave. We held a big, warm party to celebrate the closing of the camp. All the campers shared their wonderful moments. To my surprise,I found the boy from under the tree dancing joyfully with two girls.I couldn't believe it was the same person.
In October of my second year,I received a phone call from Tommy's mother. She told me that Tommy was hit by a car and killed.I offered my deep sadness. The mother said,"Tommy mentioned you so many times.I want you to know that he went back to school and made new friends with confidence. You made a difference for Tommy during his last months."
At that moment,I realized how easy it was to give a bit of yourself every day.You may never know how much each gesture may mean to someone else.I hope that everyone can pay attention to their own "boy under the tree".

5.How to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone Methodologically (方法上),getting out of your comfort zone involves doing whatever it is that makes you uncomfortable.(1)
However, for some people who want to push themselves out of their comfort zone constantly,to always be in the face of discomfort, uncertainty, and resistance, and be okay with that, there needs to be a reason or a fuel to dive them forward despite resistance. This reason can be a passion they are trying to seek or a vision they are trying to realize.
Here are some specific tips to push yourself out of your comfort zone:
Move towards your fear (rather than away from it).
This means if you feel fearful about something, then feel the fear, and just do it anyway.(2)
(3)
Every little thing you do that is a deviation (偏離)from your usual routine is one step outside of your comfort zone. For example, try a different path to work.Order a different dish from your favorite restaurant.Speak to that colleague whom you normally would not talk to,Email that guy/girl you like to say hi.
Fall in love with discomfort.
The whole essence(本質(zhì))of moving out of one's comfort zone is about learning to be okay with being uncomfortable.Better yet, learn to love to be uncomfortable.(4)
Constantly try new things.
