1.At first look,Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore seems familiar to kids. The slowly moving sand, seabirds and miles of greenish-blue water all add up to one thing--the sea.But then,somewhere-maybe on the pile(堆)of sand called Dune Run-the kids stop, realize this is Michigan,a landlocked state in the US,and ask,"How did the sea get here?"
It didn't.This is Lake Michigan. It's a lake--a great one--and the water is fresh, not salty, says Lisa Myers, chief of interpretation(講解)and visitor services at Sleeping Bear.
"When my family comes here from New England in the north-eastern US,they all have to taste the water",she says. "The area looks like Cape Cod in my home town. You can't believe this isn't the coast."
"Playing on the Dune Run is like being in a huge sandbox,"says Myers. But there's so much more.Help kids see the park through a wider lens(鏡片)by walking along the sandy Lake Michigan beach.
"With their feet on the sand and in the water, kids can see there are waves(波浪)," says Myers,"They can watch fish, otters and beavers swimming in the lake."
July and August are best for water play, but winter is magical for kids, adds Myers."They can walk the beaches to see all the ice formations(形態(tài))and crashing waves," she says."We offer snowshoe walks in January and February, where kids can look for marks left by animals. And when it's windy, they can stand on the Dune Run and feel the forces of nature. The kids can run or roll down the hill, too, which is a whole lot of fun."

2.Toilet paper as we know it today is a relatively modern invention that's only been around for about 150 years. It s natural to wonder what was used before modern toilet paper.Toilet paper in its ancient form dates back to China in at least the 6th century.Although paper itself appeared long before that time.
In ancient times, many kinds of materials(材料)were used instead of toilet paper. For example, sand was used by people who settled near the desert(沙漠);grass was used by people living in the grassland. Some other things known to have been used included:fur, leaves, rocks, snow, and so on.Of course,it wasn't uncommon for people to go to the bathroom in a small river.
They might have used a cloth or their hands to clean themselves afterward. For many people, that might have been preferable to the method used by ancient Romans:a sponge(海綿)on a stick kept in saltwater...and shared by everyone using public bathrooms.
Luckily for us,Joseph Gayetty created the first toilet paper in 1857.His "Gayetty's Medicated Paper" didn't become popular soon, however, since the public was used to using materials they got for free rather than spending money on toilet paper. The rolled toilet paper we're familiar with today appeared in the 1880s.It wasn't necessarily soft like we're now used to,though.Paper production methods would often leave splinters(刺)in toilet paper. It wasn't until 1935 that Northern Tissue said they had made"splinter- free"toilet paper.
Other improvements in toilet paper happened over the course of the 20th Century.Larger rolls with softer paper became more popular.Today, take a trip to your local supermarket.jye.ai you will find many different kinds of toilet paper. For such a widely-used,necessary invention,it isn't given much thought...until it runs out!
(1)What might decide which material ancient people used after using the bathroom?
A.What they did.
B.Where they lived.
C.How old they were.
D.How long they used the bathroom.
(2)Why was Gayetty's Medicated Paper unpopular at first?
A.Because the paper had splinters.
B.Because the paper couldn't be shared.
C.Because people didn't want to pay for it.
D.Because people preferred rolled toilet paper.
(3)How does the text mainly develop?
A.By providing examples.
B.By making comparisons.
C.By telling an interesting story.
D.By following the order of time.
(4)What would be the best title for the text?
A.A great invention--toilet paper
B.Why was toilet paper invented?
C.Toilet paper vs water:which to choose
D.What did people use before toilet paper?組卷:6難度:0.5

"Mom,why does Li hate me?"
"Honey, she doesn't hate you.Li is still getting used to you," Mom said." It's only been two weeks."
"But look," Amanda took a cookie off her dish and held it out to Li.
"Want to eat it?"
As soon as Li saw Amanda reaching over, her eyes widened.Li quickly got down from her seat and raced to her room.
"See?" Amanda said to Mom. "I thought being a big sister would be fun."
Over a year ago,Amanda's parents said that they were adopting(收養(yǎng))a daughter from China, and Amanda had danced with excitement. She' d dreamed of taking her sister to the park, reading books to her,and teaching her to ride a bicycle. That hadn't happened.
"She runs away whenever I get close," Amanda said.
Mom took Amanda's hand." Think of how frightening it is for her. She's in a new country with a new family."
"I just wish I knew how to help her," Amanda said, thinking of Li's frightened eyes.
Amanda went into the family room and sat down on the sofa. How could she help Li?She'd sung songs to her, drawn pictures for her,and made funny faces.None of that had worked.
Amanda turned on the TV.She stopped to watch a film about a dog and a cat.The film was in another language. The show looked funny, but she didn't understand any of jye.ai.It made Amanda remember when they were in China. She had gotten frustrated(沮喪的)when people talked in Chinese.
That's it.Amanda turned off the TV and sped to her room. She found the CDs Aunt Linda gave her last year to help her learn some Chinese.
Amanda tiptoed(踮著腳走)to Li's room.Looking in,Amanda saw Li curled up(卷縮)in a ball on her bed.She could hear Li sobbing(哭泣).Amanda knocked on the open door.
